Father - Pappa
Mother - Mamma
Sister - Syster
Sisters - Systrar
Brother - Bror
Brothers - Bröder
Cousin - Kusin
Aunt - Moster (mothers sister), Faster (fathers sister)
Uncle - Morbror (mothers brother), Farbror (fathers brother)
Grandmother - Mormor, Farmor (same here as above)
Grandfather - Morfar, Farfar
Girlfriend - Flickvän
Boyfriend - Pojkvän

  • It's so cool that you have different words for family members, dependent on which side of the family they come from. It's a much easier system, because in the UK, all we use are personal preference names, and they can be anything. Families have so many varied names for grandparents.

  • Can you tell me how to pronounce pojkvän? cause i'm partially swedish in heritage and i'm trying to find something to call my boyfriend but i need to know how to pronounce it.
